Welcome from the Year Group Leads
At Field End Infant School, pupil attainment is at the heart of all we do. As year group leads, we have responsibility for overseeing teaching, learning and assessment across each year group to ensure that our teaching is founded in current thinking about best practice in education and that we continually evaluate and review teaching practices to ensure they are enabling children to make the best progress possible.
Evaluation of children’s learning involves ongoing assessment. Teachers observe children’s progress across the curriculum in order to gain information that will help them make decisions about how best to move learning forwards. This may involve providing extra support within a lesson, or through targeted interventions in addition to whole class input. It may also involve planning learning activities that increase challenge.
Several times a year, teachers make a summative judgement about children’s progress towards end of year age related expectations. Part of our role involves analysing the data this generates, allowing the school to spot trends and quickly ascertain where our strengths lie and where we need to target support in order to enable children to make rapid progress, particularly where they are at risk of falling behind. We engage with parents and carers at these key points to help them understand how they can support this process at home and also with school governors, who play an important role in holding the school accountable for the attainment and progress of the children we teach.
