Reduction of Published Admissions Numbers

As parents / carers were advised in our October newsletter, we have been reviewing our class organisation to ensure we continue to meet the needs of local pupils and families effectively. The school’s current Published Admissions Number (PAN) is 90, but overall pupil numbers have declined over the past four years. This reflects both a reduction in local families and a wider drop in birth rates across Greater London.

In response, the school’s governors and officers at Hillingdon Council are considering it may be sensible to formally reduce the Reception PAN to 60, starting from the September 2027 intake. This adjustment would help the school to plan staffing and class sizes more effectively, allowing us to focus resources where they’re most needed and continue providing high-quality education for local children. This proposed change will not affect current pupils, their siblings, or other families seeking a place at the school in the future.

If you have any questions, please speak to the Headteacher or contact the Hillingdon admissions team at admissions@hillingdon.gov.uk.

Please note: if the number of local families increases significantly in the future, the school and council could choose to reinstate the additional 30 places for a year group, Increasing the PAN can be done immediately and does not require consultation, unlike a reduction. This consultation will be run in parallel with Field End Junior School’s consultation on their proposal to reduce their PAN from 90 to 60, effective from September 2027.

Community Schools Admissions Arrangements

As set out in the School Admissions Code, Admission authorities must set (‘determine’) admission arrangements annually. Where changes are proposed to admission arrangements, the admission authority must first publicly consult on those arrangements. Consultation must be for a minimum of 6 weeks and must take place between 1st October and 31st January of the school year before those arrangements are to apply.

Hillingdon Council is the admissions authority for all Hillingdon Community schools and the Council will be consulting for 6 weeks from 9am Monday 3rd November 2025 until 5pm Monday 15th December 2025 for changes to the admission criteria to be implemented for admission from September 2027.

You can access the proposed admission arrangements for Hillingdon community schools for 2027/2028 below.

Reduction of Published Admissions Numbers

All community schools have a published admissions number in accordance with the School Admissions Code 2021. This is the number of school places that the admissions authority must off in each relevant age group of a school for which it is the admissions authority.

The Local Authority is consultation to reduce the Published Admissions Number (PAN) for Field End Infant School from 90 to 60, reducing the distance priority radius from 1000m to 750m and if approved, will take affect from September 2027.
