Nursery admissions

Field End nursery has places for 120 children to attend part time. The Governing Body is responsible for taking decisions about admissions to the Nursery class.  Places for the Nursery classes are allocated directly by the school and are granted on the same basis used by the Borough for school places.

Parents are asked to sign a form acknowledging that admittance to the Nursery does not guarantee a fulltime place.

Families are provided with a copy of the school brochure and home school agreement form.  An evening meeting takes place before entry to the Nursery (usually held in July and December).  The Nursery staff will arrange a home visit prior to the child entering Nursery.

Where children are twins/multiple births they will be placed in different classes within the same session.

As with the main school children are admitted on a staggered intake basis and parents are encouraged to form good communication links with the school.

Once we have completed the allocations for September, we will consider allocating available places, based on age and the likelihood of being allocated a school place. Every year we will consider the need for admitting children in January and April where we have available spaces.

We start the admission process in the second half of the Spring term every year.

Practice

  1. Parents register for a place in the Nursery (In person or over the phone)

  2. The waiting list for the Nursery is kept in age order.

  3. All siblings and Special Needs are marked for priority.

  4. After offering siblings places first, further vacancies are offered according to distance from School to the child’s home.

  5. Parents’ preference as to a morning or afternoon place is sought. Parents seeking a morning place are asked to put their request in writing, giving reasons for this preference. If we are oversubscribed in the morning session, these requests are then considered and offered according to need. Where difficulties arise, the Headteacher makes the final decision.

  6. We offer parents the place in the second half of the Spring term for the initial allocation. Included in this offer letter is an Under 5 Form and information about a parents meeting which is held at the end of the Summer term.

  7. The Under 5 Form needs to be signed and returned to Field End with the form accepting the place and requesting a morning or afternoon session.
